Robert H. Howerton (Retired)
Robert H. “Bob” Howerton is a lifelong southern Illinois resident, born in Carterville in 1943. Bob practiced law in southern Illinois from 1968 to 2016, including stints as Williamson County States Attorney (1972 – 1979), as a First Circuit Judge in Williamson County (1979 – 1988), and as a Justice on the 5th District Appellate Court (1988 – 1992).
Bob fought tirelessly for the working people of southern Illinois, and was a well respected attorney amongst his clients, colleagues, and peers. Bob is also greatly interested in politics and history, and especially enjoys a good conversation about the history of southern Illinois, the southern United States, or the Civil War. He and his wife Linda raised five children in Carterville, where he still resides.
